Orchestra Gold
Come find yourself swept away in the majesty of Orchestra Gold, an Oakland ensemble that can only be described as a modern Afro Psyche band!
With their boldest release to date, *orchestra gold* unveils *dakan* — a transcendent new album exploring the intertwined forces of destiny and passion.
Guided by the visionary vocals of malian singer **mariam diakité**, [dakan] is a sonic and spiritual journey: rooted in tradition, driven by intuition, and lit ablaze with psychedelic energy.
Mariam’s lyrics draw deeply from her devotion to the **baye fall tradition** — a mystical branch of west african sufism that favors direct experience of the divine over doctrine. her voice doesn’t just sing — it **channels.**
“They are grounded in tradition and moving the conversation of African diasporic music forward. The album implores the listener to join in and get lost in the magic.”
- CHICO MANN, ANTIBALAS / HERE LIES MAN
“holy moly – this is great! I love everything about it – the songs, production, Mariam’s voice. Really great. I really like this sound you have cooking up – the hypnotic grooves of the rhythm section, the cool snaky guitar lines and near feedback, and the layers of vox”
— JIM MCGUINN, ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR of WXPN
“Mali’s musical heritage is vast…and Mariam’s voice channels that history.”
