The Village & Phil Ochs
Come to Drom on September 18 for The Village & Phil Ochs as a part of the Village Trip Festival. 5:30 PM doors, 6 PM show.
On September 18th at DROM, Composers Concordance presents new works influenced by Phil Ochs, a leading figure in the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 60s and 70s. Ochs wrote protest songs in the spirit of Joe Hill and Woody Guthrie. A political activist, he was known for his sharp, sardonic humor. Many aspects of the Coen Brothers movie 'Inside Llewyn Davis', about a fictional folksinger, are based on Ochs’ true story. Phil Ochs has a base of passionate, loyal fans, and his work continues to inspire and influence singer-songwriters of today. Featured on the program are composers William Anderson, Lynn Bechtold, Frank Brickle, David Claman, Dan Cooper, Jennifer DeVore, Melanie Mitrano, and Gene Pritsker, as they take inspiration from Ochs' music and his milieu. This event is part of the The Village Trip, a two-week-long festival celebrating arts and activism in Greenwich Village.
